MOBILE APP QUESTION?

We've lots to tell you. Visit our Mobile App Page.

WHERE DOES OUR COFFEE COME FROM?

Despite many legends about an Ethiopian goatherd discovering the delightful effects of coffee beans in the 9th century, the first hard evidence of coffee being roasted and brewed dates back to the 15th Century in Yemen. From there the beans spread through North Africa and the Middle East, and then on to Venice’s thriving port around 1600 with the first Italian coffee house opening in 1645.

Now, coffee is harvested all around the world, in over 75 countries in the warm climate of the equatorial belt between the Tropics. Today, the main producers are Brazil, Vietnam and Indonesia.

WHERE DO YOU ROAST YOUR COFFEE?

Most of our coffee is roasted at our Roast House on Meadow Lane in Nottingham, on the banks of the River Trent. We also have a small 5kg roasting facility at our shop on Queen Street in Cardiff, you can watch it being used.

WHY ARE YOU CALLED 200 DEGREES?

It is the temperature at which we slowly roast the green coffee beans (in Centigrade) and the ideal temperature at which to brew coffee (in Fahrenheit)

HOW IS COFFEE ROASTED?

We use a Loring 70kg batch roaster for our main blends, but still have our original 15kg drum roaster that we started off with. The green beans go in, and our master roasters do the rest by relying on their skill and experience to decide when the roast is complete.

HOW FRESHLY ROASTED IS MY COFFEE?

We roast 5 days a week and your coffee will usually be delivered within a week of roasting, but often a lot quicker. Please note that it best to allow the coffee to settle for a couple of days after roasting before drinking (CO2 is emitted for 24-48 hours and can give a bitter taste to the coffee).

HOW DO I BREW COFFEE?

There are a lot of different ways to brew the perfect cup of coffee. We will be publishing brew guides very soon to take you through it step by step.

IS COFFEE GOOD FOR YOU?

The health benefits of coffee have been debated for years and there is often something in the news about coffee having one benefit or another. Aside from a caffeine boost and the feeling of happiness it brings to us we can only say that common sense is the best course of action, all things in moderation.

WHERE ARE YOUR COFFEE SHOPS?

Currently we have three shops in Nottingham and two in Birmingham, and others Manchester, Leeds, Leicester, Lincoln, Sheffield, Liverpool, Barnsley, York and Cardiff. Click here to find you nearest venue, we’d love you to come and visit us.

CAN I VISIT YOUR ROAST HOUSE?

Of course, but please arrange it first. You can also see our beans being roasted at our shop on Queen Street in Cardiff

HOW IS YOUR COFFEE DECAFFEINATED?

We only ever use green beans that have been decaffeinated with non-solvent based processes, usually based on the chemical free Swiss Water Process.

WHY SHOULD I SUBSCRIBE INSTEAD OF JUST BUYING SINGLE BAGS?

We all forget to do things, the small stuff like buying milk, putting the bin out or sending a birthday card. But imagine running out of coffee, it really doesn’t bear thinking about and subscription makes that event far less likely. You can adjust your deliveries in your account settings. It's also a little cheaper.

WHY DOES YOUR COFFEE COST MORE THAN SUPERMARKET BRANDS?

As with many smaller producers we are less concerned with speed and convenience and more concerned with quality and freshness. We use higher quality beans, we roast them slowly for a superior flavour and body and we deliver very fresh coffee every time. We roast regularly to make sure that you get your coffee through your door within days of roasting.

HOW DO I CHANGE OR CANCEL MY SUBSCRIPTION?

Go to your account page and click ‘cancel my subscription’, there are no cancellation fees or contracts.

HOW CAN I CHANGE THE TYPE OF COFFEE I HAVE SUBSCRIBED TO?

Visit your account page and simply click on ‘change my coffee’.

WHAT IS YOUR POLICY OF SUSTAINABILITY?

Rather than just subscribing to a simple well-known buying group, such as Fairtrade, we buy from suppliers who build ethical direct trade routes with farmers, where all parts of the supply chain are transparent and co-operative. We believe that this is the best way to ensure that the farmers get a fair payment for their beans. That said, most of our beans also have certification from the well know organisations such as Fairtrade or Rainforest Alliance.

CAN I BUY YOUR BEANS WHOLESALE?

Yes, we supply many businesses from small cafes and bars to Michelin-starred restaurants, offices and even other coffee shops near our own venues. We can also support you with commercial espresso machines, training for your team, marketing support and service agreements. Give us a call if you’d like more information, or take a look at our Wholesale and Business pages here.
